Some Halloweeny Fun!

Grant wanted to be Thomas the Tank Engine this year, so we went a’huntin’ for that costume and finally found it. We went trick-or-treating with some friends of ours in their neighborhood and attended a “Hallo-weenie Roast” with barbequed hotdogs and hot chocolate in the neighborhood. It was a fun time and it was a great neighborhood with lots of young children. I think Grant was stunned he could score free candy by dressing up and knocking on people’s doors. The whole “trick-or-treating” thing finally clicked with him this year :-)

We carved our first jack o’lantern this year, too. I found a website online with free pumpkin designs. After I carved this one, I wished I had gotten more pumpkins because it would have been fun to do more. Grant had a blast with the pumpkin carving! I also found a good pumpkin carving kit at Crate n’ Barrel to help out with the process. That store is so fun! :-) It was hard to stop shopping at the pumpkin kit; I talked myself into getting a serving spoon, too. What a modest choice, eh? I saw some cute ornaments and, as always, they have great dishes!

Wives and Daughters

We have Netflix and we recently received this movie in the mail. I love this movie! It has been so fun to watch this and Timo has been a good sport to watch it with me :-)

In the words of a two-year-old

regarding the light-switch to his bedroom (which we had taped over because it was continually shocking us):

“That light DOES work! Sometimes it is broken and sometimes the electricity comes to fix it!”

Back by popular demand

I am willing to bet that there are some Grant-starved family members out there who are just dying to see some new updated photos :-) Am I right??

Sorry for being AWOL for so long. And I know Sarah Palin is cute but she’s not as cute as Grant! Though Trig Palin is pretty stinkin’ cute too but I don’t have any pictures of him so he doesn’t count.

I will post some pictures below. But first, what we’ve been doing these days:

Tim is officially on year three of med school. It’s such a nice change! He’s enjoying his rotations much more than the classroom time and is learning a bunch. He’s done a rotation in family medicine and osteopathic manipulation and is currently doing surgery. So far he’s enjoyed family medicine the best: he likes being the guy in the center of the patient care. He also has had pretty nice hours so far- no twelve/fourteen-hour days or anything yet though I think that will change in a hospital setting. He starts another family medicine rotation next Monday and this time it’s in a hospital so we’ll see how that goes.

I am back in school now too. I am halfway through my semester already! I am glad to be back in the program working toward my goal of finishing up by Christmas 2010. It hasn’t been easy but I have felt God’s grace with me throughout this semester. Grant is taking good naps so that has really helped a lot. In fact, I need to go put him down soon.

But for your viewing pleasure: three new pictures! The first one is a close-up of his face so you can see his wild curls, and the second is of him modeling his new train jammies. We picked these up on sale at JC Penney’s this morning and he loves them. The third is him showing off his new skill: shimmying up doorjambs. This definitely runs in the family because both Tim and I can remember doing the same as kids.

A sweet smile

Mohler’s article on Trig Palin

FYI: Al Mohler’s article about Sarah Palin and her son Trig has been re-posted and can be found here.

Thrilled about Sarah

I am so thrilled about McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin as the GOP VP nominee. I had first heard about her several months ago through a post on Al Mohler’s blog congratulating Sarah and her husband, Todd, on the birth of their new little baby. That little baby’s name is Trig and he has Down Syndrome. I thought it was wonderful that despite their advance knowledge (through prenatal testing) of Trig’s Down Syndrome, they went ahead with the pregnancy with complete acceptance and joy in their little guy! And they love having him in their family and say he brings them great joy.

Isn’t that terrific?

After reading more about her, I find that I really like her pro-life, pro-woman philosophy. A conservative woman in a powerful political position who loves her husband and children is very encouraging thing to see. I love the fact that she’s got a playpen in her governor’s office for her baby, Trig, and her daughter Piper, age 5, often accompanies her to work.

I don’t know how she does it; it seems a little unbelievable that she can get anything done but apparently she does.

It will be very interesting to watch this race now. I wasn’t that interested before but McCain’s pick of Sarah has made it a lot more fun.

The Lizard (with props)

Or view here if that won’t play.

The Lizard
John Gardner

The Lizard is a timid thing
That cannot dance or fly or sing;
He hunts for bugs beneath the floor
And longs to be a dinosaur.

Every Insect

Every Insect
Dorothy Aldis

Every Insect (ant, fly, bee)
Is divided into three;
One head, one chest, one stomach part.

Some have brains.
All have a heart.

Insects have no bones,

No noses.

But with feelers they can smell
Dinner half a mile away.

Can your nose do have as well?

Also you’d be in a fix
With all those legs to manage:
Six.

A Fun Family Vacation

We had lots of fun on our last WC trip. Here are some photos of what we did. More pictures to come of the Springville and Napa trips.
