Grant was in a parade at his preschool and wanted to be an astronaut. I found some directions for creating an astronaut costume online and this is what Tim and I came up with. Pretty snazzy, in my (not so) humble opinion. It was fun to put it together and see how thrilled Grant was with it. And there's another picture of William looking very surprised at the camera. He's really filling out and getting quite chubby and cute.

A Trip to Disneyland

We celebrated Tim's return by taking a family trip to Disneyland. We have season passes, which pays for itself after two trips. We've used them a ton this year. I'm so glad Tim is coming home Wednesday. He'll be coming back to a messy house, dead lawn, dusty car, rambunctious three-year-old, sweet two-month-old, and one very happy (but tired, cranky, and losing-her-grip-on-life) wife.

I hardly have two seconds to myself anymore to string a coherent thought together. This blog, when I get around to it, is a nice way to sit down and actually see myself think by writing. Any other time my thoughts are constantly interrupted by remembering that the wet laundry is still in the washing machine and has been for hours, or hearing William cry, or hearing Grant sing about sinking the Bismarck for the millionth time, and at the top of his lungs, or remembering something else I have to do which is some other thought than what I was thinking about five seconds earlier. I just feel so scatterbrained. Sheesh.

Below are several pictures from the past two weeks. In the one where Grant is wearing a green cape, he's practicing some Jedi moves. The show at Disneyland where the kids fight off Darth Vadar has made an indelible impression on him! He's never seen the movie but I know he wants to be Luke Skywalker already! Such is life with boys. There are several of William, and one of Grant in his room-time in his freshly cleaned room. I wish room-time was always as peaceful as this picture makes it look. I think that was the honeymoon phase. Haha. WOW- all I can say is, life with one looks way easier in hindsight. It had its challenges, for sure, but life with two, one of those being a newborn, is incredibly exhausting right now. I think it's probably worse because Tim is gone in Texas for a month. He'll be back in two weeks and I can't wait! Some recent photos of the Davis fam:

Me at our Labor Day picnic
William is asleep during his tummy time which is supposed to be his wake time. It completely soaked my shorts. So glad I wasn't out and about when it happened!) and we got to the hospital around 10:45 p.m. After a few hours and an epidural, William was born and we were so happy to meet him! He clocked in at 9 lbs., 9 oz. and all the hospital staff were duly impressed at his size. We stayed in the hospital overnight and came home Wednesday afternoon. These first few days we have been enjoying all the sweet things about a newborn as well as re-remembering the things that aren't so fun (like, not much sleep!). But he is so precious and we are thrilled to have him with us. Here are some photos of his first few days with us. I used to put him down for a nap right after lunch, which generally lasted anywhere from ninety minutes to three hours. But lately, it has been harder for him to fall asleep early enough where his nap wouldn't interfere with going to bed. So we decided to skip the nap entirely and instituted an hour-long playtime/rest time where he stays in his room, coming out only for bathroom breaks. An hour isn't too long (well, at least in this mommy's mind though Grant probably feels differently!) and it seems that he's adjusting fairly well if I don't count his initial whining of how "that's not fun!" I told him to have a fun time in there today, and he said that I should have a fun time "out there" too! I heard him playing in a "band" in there with some sort of percussion instrument he'd invented, and running around the bases as a baseball player later :-) I usually put on some good kid music and try to stock up on new library books every couple of weeks so he's not totally bored.

The benefit has been that he goes to bed early now, usually around 7, and sleeps a full twelve hours! A really long day is worth having that break in the evening and morning! I'm hoping we can stick with this new routine even after William comes. We shall see...it might be a little too good to be true.

Family Pictures

We had some family pictures done while up north, courtesy of Melissa Holbrook. We are very excited to welcome William when he comes. So far, we have been organizing and cleaning to make room for all the baby stuff. For the first few months, he'll be in our room in a bassinet and then will transition over to Grant's room.

I am at 38 weeks now and am seeing the doctor every week. It'll be so fun to be a mom of two boys and I am very thankful that God has blessed us with this second one!

Tim has been very busy studying for the Step 2 exam (the second round of board exams) which is on August 10th, as well as applying to the military and civilian match for residencies. We should know around Christmas where our new digs will be.

Grant has been anxiously waiting for his new brother to arrive, and has very much enjoyed seeing all of his baby things brought out and dusted off. He thought the pacifiers were especially fun and couldn't quite believe that he actually used those once upon a time!

We did buy sit-and-stand style double stroller which will perfect for age span between the two boys. The back part is great for an older, active toddler/preschooler who likes to get off and run around and the front seat will work well for the infant carrier until William is old enough to sit upright.

More Bay Area photos

Here is another picture of Grant at the pool party. Grant loved the Lego store! He's standing next to one of the legs of a huge Lego giraffe and we picked out a Lego (foam) sword for him. We'd been promising him a sword "to kill bad guys with" once he was potty-trained and wears only big boy underwear. We finally reached that goal and you can see how happy he is with Daddy and all his "soldier" gear. We only got him the sword but he had fun with the helmet and shield, too, while at the store.

Here, we're at Build-a-Bear and Grant is putting a red heart into "Logan" Bear. He originally wanted to call his little baby brother Logan but we nixed that :-) I like the way the name sounds but it means "little hollow." Not a lot to work with :-)

Riding around with Daddy
