Comparing the two boys...

Here are two photos of Grant and William at about the same age. They look so different in their pictures and it will be fun to see the changes as William gets older.

Welcome to the World!

Baby William was born on Tuesday, August 18, at 2:24 a.m. My water broke at 9:50 p.m. with a gush (and it was a huge gush! It completely soaked my shorts. So glad I wasn't out and about when it happened!) and we got to the hospital around 10:45 p.m. After a few hours and an epidural, William was born and we were so happy to meet him! He clocked in at 9 lbs., 9 oz. and all the hospital staff were duly impressed at his size. We stayed in the hospital overnight and came home Wednesday afternoon. These first few days we have been enjoying all the sweet things about a newborn as well as re-remembering the things that aren't so fun (like, not much sleep!). But he is so precious and we are thrilled to have him with us. Here are some photos of his first few days with us. I will post some photos from the hospital too.

"Hello, World!"

"Who do I look like?"

"That was some great milk, Mom!"

Reminiscing

With William's birth so close, I was just looking through some old photos of Grant and seeing how sweet he looked. I had to post some of these favorites of mine. I love his sweet smile and baby fat! The time has gone so fast and my little baby is becoming such a big boy (oh yeah, he's three- real big! :-) ) But ya know what I mean...

A change in routine...

We switched around Grant's routine upon returning home to Pomona and it has been a very good change. I used to put him down for a nap right after lunch, which generally lasted anywhere from ninety minutes to three hours. But lately, it has been harder for him to fall asleep early enough where his nap wouldn't interfere with going to bed. So we decided to skip the nap entirely and instituted an hour-long playtime/rest time where he stays in his room, coming out only for bathroom breaks. An hour isn't too long (well, at least in this mommy's mind though Grant probably feels differently!) and it seems that he's adjusting fairly well if I don't count his initial whining of how "that's not fun!" I told him to have a fun time in there today, and he said that I should have a fun time "out there" too! I heard him playing in a "band" in there with some sort of percussion instrument he'd invented, and running around the bases as a baseball player later :-) I usually put on some good kid music and try to stock up on new library books every couple of weeks so he's not totally bored.

The benefit has been that he goes to bed early now, usually around 7, and sleeps a full twelve hours! A really long day is worth having that break in the evening and morning! I'm hoping we can stick with this new routine even after William comes. We shall see...it might be a little too good to be true.

Family Pictures

We had some family pictures done while up north, courtesy of Melissa Holbrook. She did a great job! Here are several that I liked:

Getting ready for William

Since we have been back from our trip, we have been busy getting ready to welcome Davis Baby Boy #2! We are very excited to welcome William when he comes. So far, we have been organizing and cleaning to make room for all the baby stuff. For the first few months, he'll be in our room in a bassinet and then will transition over to Grant's room.

I am at 38 weeks now and am seeing the doctor every week. It'll be so fun to be a mom of two boys and I am very thankful that God has blessed us with this second one!

Tim has been very busy studying for the Step 2 exam (the second round of board exams) which is on August 10th, as well as applying to the military and civilian match for residencies. We should know around Christmas where our new digs will be.

Grant has been anxiously waiting for his new brother to arrive, and has very much enjoyed seeing all of his baby things brought out and dusted off. He thought the pacifiers were especially fun and couldn't quite believe that he actually used those once upon a time!

We did buy sit-and-stand style double stroller which will perfect for age span between the two boys. The back part is great for an older, active toddler/preschooler who likes to get off and run around and the front seat will work well for the infant carrier until William is old enough to sit upright.

More Bay Area photos

Here is another picture of Grant at the pool party. He loved the water gun! We all got nailed a few times ;-)
Here is Grant at my dad and stepmom's place in Springville. They have a great piece of property for little boys who like to explore.

From the window of our hotel, we could see this Air Force plane that had Golden Bears emblazoned on the side of it. It was kind of cool to be back in Cal country :-)

Fun up North

Our family had a good time visiting friends and family up in the Bay Area. Grant and Audrey enjoyed their ice cream cones at a pool party/BBQ at the Beaches' house. The spa tub was the way to go! It was great because I could relax and talk with other people and not worry about them in the water since it was only about 3 feet deep!
